WEST NILE VIRUS (WNV)
West Nile virus and Diabetes-MMWR article
Dialysis centers should adhere to strict infection control procedure and be
aware of the possibility of the WNV transmission.

2004 WNV Activity in the United States
Provides updated information on West Nile virus activity in
the United States. Six hundred and eighty nine human cases have
been reported to CDC this season as of August 17, 2004. Of the
689 cases, 253 were reported as West Nile meningitis or
encephalitis (neuroinvasive disease), 259 were reported as
West Nile fever (milder disease), and 177 were clinically
unspecified at this time. Twenty deaths have been reported.
