Avian Influenza
The UK Veterinary Laboratories Agency (VLA) has confirmed an outbreak of the H5N1 strain of avian influenza in poultry found dead on a farm near Lowestoft in Suffolk, UK. It is similar to the virus that was found in Hungary in January.

Avian Influenza - Situation in Nigeria - Update - February 3
The government of Nigeria announced on February 3rd the presence of A/H5N1 avian influenza virus in a 22-year-old deceased female from Lagos. The initial positive test findings from a laboratory in Nigeria were confirmed by the WHO Collaborating Centre for Reference and Research on Influenza in London. Further investigations are under way to identify the source of her infection.
